Iran's answer to the RIM-174 SM-6 ERAM - the USS Dena will be armed with vertical-launch anti-aircraft missiles
The Iranian military has decided to equip its ships with vertical launch systems to improve defence against missile attacks. The Dena destroyer will be able to fend off anti-ship missiles.
Here's What We Know
The Iranian Navy received the Dena destroyer two years ago, which is the fourth representative of the Mowj class. The warship has modern armament and is used for long missions in the seas and oceans.
When travelling long distances, the ability to protect the destroyer from fighter jets, drones and missiles from shore is lost. The Iranian Navy has therefore decided to equip the ship with a vertical launch system.
Iranian media do not specify what kind of system will be installed on the Dena destroyer. It is only known that it is an Israeli development, which will increase the effectiveness of air defence.
How the Israeli vertical launch system will look like and what missiles it will use is also unknown at the moment. The first photo shows the launch of a US Standard family anti-aircraft missile.
