Here's What We Know
The Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania has announced a new package of military aid, including NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems. The American-Norwegian air defence system will be delivered to Ukraine along with cannons to suppress drones. The number of launchers is not specified.
NASAMS is a medium-range system that uses AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles. It aims to intercept drones, aircraft, helicopters and cruise missiles. The surface-to-air missile system, like Germany's IRIS-T SLM, can shoot down aerial threats at altitudes of up to 20 kilometres within a radius of 40 kilometres.
The Lithuanian defence ministry also revealed what weapons have been transferred to Ukraine since the beginning of 2023. Previous military aid packages included Mi-8 helicopters, Bofors L70 anti-aircraft gunships, ammunition and M113 armoured personnel carriers.
