Netflix will stream an MMA fight live for the first time. The match will take place on May 16, with Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano as the main participants.

What's Known

Both athletes are returning to the octagon after retiring from their careers. Rousey left the sport in 2016, and Carano in 2009. Organizers call this a one-time comeback.

The featherweight fight will take place in a hexagon cage and will be available to platform subscribers. The co-organizer of the event is Most Valuable Promotions, a company founded by Jake Paul. The choice of former female fighters is likely related to contractual restrictions of current MMA stars.

For Netflix, this is the first experience in broadcasting mixed martial arts. The service has previously shown boxing matches, as well as live broadcasts of shows, sports events, and award ceremonies.

Ronda Rousey is a former UFC champion and Olympic medalist with a 12–2 record in MMA. Gina Carano debuted in MMA in 2006 and quickly became one of the most well-known female representatives of mixed martial arts.
