One of the best episodes of Alan Wake 2 was about to be deleted: Sam Lake saved the day
Alan Wake 2 gave gamers many interesting and unforgettable moments. Although the game was created in the survival horror genre, the authors still added something unusual and even fun for this genre. One of these moments, which gamers loved, was supposed to be removed at the development stage, but fortunately, this did not happen.
Here's What We Know
The material contains spoilers for the plot of Alan Wake 2
Remedy's creative director Sam Lake told the Friends Per Second podcast that the Initiation 4 section, which features a live musical with the game's actors, was almost removed during development.
For Lake, it was very difficult for many reasons to include a musical in the game. There were many production meetings where people said: "Come on, we need to cut that out". But Sam said: "Absolutely not, we're not going to cut that episode."
Of course, it was hard for some people to imagine that this could be done. The game's director, Kyle Rowley, said during the podcast that when you tell someone: "We're going to put a musical into a survival horror game," the question arises: "Well, how?".
The idea for the musical came partly from the great success of the Ashtray Maze mission in Control.
Lake also added that Matthew Poretta, who plays Alan Wake, is a great singer, so he knew how Alan could sing in this game. And then the creative director found David Harewood, who was great as Mr Door because he has a background in singing.
Poets of the Fall, a real-life Finnish rock band that appears in the universe as the Old Gods of Asgard, also helped to realise the idea. The band directed the actions of Harewood and Poretta, so thanks to all these efforts, we got one of the best scenes in the game.
