For the Japanese version of Baldur's Gate 3, "sexually explicit content" and the ability to torture NPCs had to be removed
Baldur's Gate 3 will be released in Japan on 21 December, but this version will have more censorship.
Here's What We Know
Spike Chunsoft, which publishes the Japanese version, reported that it cuts out "sexually explicit content". After all, the Japanese version must comply with the standards of the CERO Code of Ethics regarding "prohibited statements". Players in the Japanese version will not be able to enable explicit content such as "genitalia display", "nudity in scenes", and "viewing sexual scenes". At the same time, the ability for players to torture NPCs in the goblin camp in the first act will be removed.
Although BG 3 received a Z rating in Japan, which is equivalent to M (17+) from the ESRB, Larian still had to make these changes to comply with the CERO Code.
