Take-Two and 2K Games are being sued over microtransactions in their sports games
Take-Two Interactive and 2K Games have been sued over virtual currency in their games.
Here's What We Know
The lawsuit was filed in a California federal court on 17 November by a minor represented by his mother.
The lawsuit concerns microtransactions for the purchase of in-game items in the 2K sports simulation series.
The lawsuit claims that the companies' approach is "unfair, illegal and greedy". It also mentions that the servers of old games are eventually shut down, after which it is no longer possible to use the currency, nor to transfer it to a new version of the game.
The lawsuit states that the publisher does not provide any reasons why it does not refund or allow the transfer of these funds, and that players are not warned when they purchase game currency that this may happen.
At the same time, they are seeking fair and equitable non-monetary and monetary relief for themselves and those whose game currency was removed from their 2K Games account between 17 November 2019 and the present.
Take-Two refuses to comment on the situation.
Last year, Take-Two Interactive was also subject to a class action lawsuit over the use of loot boxes in NBA 2K games.
