Historic locations, mythical monsters and no procedural generation: the developers of Titan Quest 2 talked about the creation of the game's world
Titan Quest 2 - a direct sequel to the cult action-RPG of 2006 - was announced in August 2023 and was accompanied only by a cinematic trailer, which, while spectacular, did not reveal any details about the game.
Finally, developers from THQ Nordic and Grimlore Games studio (author of SpellForce 3) started to share information about Titan Quest 2.
Here's What We Know
In their blog, game designers Grimlore Games published a post about creating an authentic and atmospheric world of Ancient Greece, which is inhabited by brave warriors and monsters from myths and legends.
The developers said that they strive to create the most believable world of the game, despite the fact that Titan Quest 2 has a huge number of fantasy elements and motifs.
The game designers analysed the visual style of the first part of Titan Quest and turned to historical sources for inspiration and accurate reference points. They were also helped by analysing ancient Greek architecture, which is confirmed by the published concept art.
Thanks to the detailed approach to creating the world of Titan Quest 2, Sparta, Mysinia and other majestic cities will look both realistic and somewhat exaggeratedly majestic, as the game is largely based on mythology.
Game designers emphasised that they do not use procedural generation tools to create locations, as they want to make sure that every location in the game meets high quality standards and will interest players.
By the way, many locations will not be marked on the map automatically to encourage players to explore Greece on their own.
The developers showed two screenshots of Titan Quest 2, which, we note, look atmospheric.
When We Can Expect It
Titan Quest II release date is still unknown, but it is stated that the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
