Instagram has introduced a new video editor called Edits, which is already available for download on Android and iOS. This is a standalone application that is expected to become a direct competitor to the popular CapCut.

Here's What We Know

Edits offers dozens of tools for creating high-quality videos, including a convenient timeline, adding trending audio, subtitles, and publishing videos directly to Instagram or Facebook.

Edits lets you shoot videos right in the app, edit without watermarks, and use professional-grade tools like the green screen effect. Thanks to artificial intelligence, you can animate images, precisely cut objects in the video, and create high-quality content even without experience.

The app has Inspiration and Ideas tabs where you can save ideas and find inspiration in videos with popular audio. Analytics are also available - Edits helps you understand which videos your audience likes.

Instagram is already working on new features. For example, Keyframes will allow you to animate the position, scale, and rotation of objects in the frame. And Modify will use AI to change the style of videos. The app will also support collaborative editing, new fonts, effects, filters, and text animations.

The app is already available for free on the App Store and Google Play.

As of 23 April 2025, the CapCut video editor is once again available for download in the US via the App Store and Google Play. After a temporary ban, CapCut was removed from US app stores.

However, after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to suspend the ban for 75 days, CapCut resumed operations in the US.
