Yesterday the long-awaited trailer of Shadow of the Erdtree add-on for Elden Ring was shown, and shortly after the video was published Eurogamer portal published a great interview with the game's creator Hidetaka Miyazaki.
FromSoftware's president and creative director revealed some interesting details about the upcoming expansion.
Here's What We Know
Hidetaka Miyazaki is confident that the DLC will make the same impression as the game itself. The Japanese developers have put a lot of effort into making Shadow of the Erdtree a worthy sequel to Elden Ring.
Miyazaki revealed that:
- Shadow of the Erdtree is the biggest addition in FromSoftware's history;
- Writer George R.R. Martin, who worked on the backstory and plot of Elden Ring, was not involved in the creation of Shadow of the Erdtree, as the story of the add-on was already thought out during the creation of the main game;
- The first discussions about DLC started at the final stage of Elden Ring production, and the studio started implementing the ideas after the release of the necessary patches for the game;
- The new location featured in the DLC will be larger than Limgrave from the main game;
- The developers have redesigned the locations, so the DLC will have more connecting areas between open spaces and dungeons;
- Shadow of the Erdtree will feature ten new bosses, as well as new weapons (including eight new categories), equipment and skills;
- Poison Swamp will definitely appear in the DLC, as it is Hidetaka Miyazaki's favourite type of locations - they appeared in all his games;
- The difficulty in the add-on will remain at the same level as in the base game - high, but not impossible. The developer recommends to familiarise yourself with the add-on during the final stages of Elden Ring;
- Shadow of the Erdtree will definitely have a boss as difficult as Malenia, and it will be a serious challenge for the gamer.
- There will be a new progress element in the DLC, which will give the player extra motivation to go back, strengthen the character and try again to pass a difficult location.
When We Can Expect It
Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on 21 June on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam).
Pre-order is already open.
