Nixxes refuses to add ray tracing to PC version of Horizon Forbidden West
On 21 March, the PC version of Horizon Forbidden West was released. The game received 92% of positive reviews on Steam, and players noted good optimisation. However, Nixxes Software, which was engaged in the porting, refused to add raytracing.
Here's What We Know
Michiel Roza, in an interview with Digital Foundry, explained that the team initially thought about adding ray tracing, but decided against it. For example, this feature is available for the PC version of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but it required a lot of work with lighting. And Forbidden West is an even bigger project, and the game already looks good.
Guerrilla's Jeroen Krebbers added that there are a lot of trees in the game, which would have made it even more difficult, even though there are plenty of hard surfaces and settlements in the game. Add to that the fact that the game's world itself is 100 square kilometres of content or more.
We would like to remind you that the PC version of Forbidden West includes the Burning Shores expansion pack. It also supports unlimited frame rates, widescreen monitors, Nvidia DLSS 3, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS. The game costs $60.
