Perplexity Updates Comet Assistant: Now the AI Agent Works Like a Human — and Slightly Better
The company Perplexity has made its browser assistant Comet Assistant even smarter — it can now multitask in multiple tabs simultaneously, take on more complex tasks, and even politely ask for permission before acting on your behalf.
What Has Changed
Previously, Comet was more of a "smart observer," but now it has become a full-fledged online agent that can carry out multi-step tasks: search for data on various websites, fill out forms, compare prices, and compile reports — all without the need to switch between tabs.
The main improvement is the ability to work in parallel in different tabs and applications. For example, a user can instruct Comet to check several airline ticket websites, compare prices, and prepare a brief report — the assistant will do all of this on its own without losing context between pages.
Developers emphasize that along with increased capabilities, the level of user control has also grown: now Comet asks for permission if it needs to click a link, enter data or perform an action directly. Once you decide to trust the task, the assistant will continue it without needing repeated confirmations.
According to internal tests, the updated Comet is 23% more successful in completing tasks and significantly better at handling long chains of commands that require remembering context and responding to changes.
In fact, Perplexity is trying to turn the browser into a digital colleague that doesn't get distracted, doesn't tire, and can neatly manage the chaos of dozens of open tabs.
Competitors like Opera or OpenAI are already testing their own AI browsers, but Comet focuses not on autonomy, but on practical benefits and human control.
And while a fully "browser that works for you" is still far off, Comet is already confidently moving in that direction.
