Neil Druckmann talks about how The Last of Us Part II was originally supposed to end
The ending of The Last of Us Part II is remembered by everyone who has played the game. Some people understood it, others thought that everything should have ended differently, but thanks to the remaster, we were able to find out how the end of the story was originally planned.
Here's What We Know
The following article contains a lot of spoilers for The Last of Us Part II!
In The Last of Us Part II Remastered, you can turn on the developer commentary during the game. And thanks to this, players could hear Neil Druckmann's commentary in one of the final scenes of the game, when Ellie fights Abby.
Ellie was supposed to drown Abby, and before that, Leo and Yara were dying. But we got the ending where only Yara died, and Ellie lets Abby go, who, together with the Lion, sails away on a boat in search of Fireflies.
Neil explained that Abby's death was abandoned because Joel would not have wanted Ellie to kill Abby. He knew his death was inevitable and accepted that fact.
