The game begins with players leisurely travelling through the Pacific Northwest until they encounter the formidable walls of the Olympic Exclusion Zone. After an unexpected teleportation and a fight against the elements, players get an unremarkable station wagon at their disposal to explore. Interacting with different characters becomes crucial as players begin to plan their escape from the Zone, unravelling its secrets.

To upgrade the car, players can strategically plan trips, collect materials, and use the Production Station to create blueprints that allow them to upgrade it in a variety of ways. The introduction of quirks adds an element of unpredictability by changing the ride in different ways, and players must remain vigilant in avoiding the dangerous Anomalies that roam the Zone.
