Considering in-ceiling subwoofer - am i crazy?

I've been toying with the idea of installing an in-ceiling subwoofer to upgrade my home sound system. The thought of hidden, powerful bass without sacrificing floor space is really appealing, but I'm not sure if it's just a pipe dream or a worthwhile investment.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's taken the plunge or has knowledge about these setups. Are they as good as they sound on paper? Or am I better off sticking with traditional options?

My main goal is to boost my audio experience while keeping my living space clean and uncluttered. But I'm also open to creative alternatives if you think there's a better way to achieve this.

So, what's the verdict on in-ceiling subs? Hit me with your thoughts, experiences, and any recommendations you might have. Thanks in advance for helping me navigate this decision!

Not crazy, but brave! I installed a Polk Audio RC80i in-ceiling speaker last year. While it's not a dedicated subwoofer, it handles bass pretty well for its size. Be prepared for some ceiling work though!

Dude, in-ceiling subs are like stealth bass ninjas! But seriously, they can be awesome if done right. What's your budget? That'll help narrow down options.

Hold up. Before you start cutting holes in your ceiling, have you considered bass traps or room treatment? Might solve your problems without major construction.

Have you thought about a slim subwoofer that could slide under furniture? The SVS SB-1000 Pro is pretty compact and packs a punch. Might be a less drastic solution than ceiling surgery.

Whatever you do, please think of your neighbors! In-ceiling subs can sometimes transmit more vibration to adjoining spaces. Ask me how I know... ))

I've had good experiences with the klipsch cdt-5650-c 2 in-ceiling speaker. It's not a dedicated sub, but it delivers impressive bass for an in-ceiling unit. If you're set on the in-ceiling route, it's worth considering.

@Albetr Before you go cutting holes in your ceiling, have you considered a compromise? The rel acoustics t/5i subwoofer is compact and can be tucked away easily. Might give you the clean look you want without the hassle of major installations. Just a thought!
