What's the best router for verizon fios to unravel the fiber optic maze?

Just switched to Verizon Fios gigabit plan and I'm lost in the router jungle. Their rental doesn't cut it for my smart home setup - I've got about 20 devices including smart lights, thermostats, and security cameras. Looking for the best router for Verizon Fios that can handle the load without breaking a sweat. Any Fios veterans out there with router wisdom to share? Budget is around $300, but flexible for the right option. Thanks in advance!

For your setup, I'd recommend the asus rt-ax86u.  It's one of the best routers for Fios gigabit and can easily handle 20+ devices. Plus, it's fully Verizon Fios compatible and the software is pretty user-friendly for managing all those smart home devices.

Before you dive in, check out "A Guide to Verizon Fios" on updater.com. It's got some solid info on what to look for in Fios compatible routers. Helped me avoid some compatibility headaches.

The ASUS is solid, but have you considered the netgear nighthawk RAX50? It's another great router that works with Fios and handles smart home traffic like a champ. Been using it for a year now, no complaints.

Agree on the Nighthawk. That thing is like the Swiss Army knife of Verizon compatible routers - does everything well. Just make sure to update the firmware regularly.

Quick question - do these fancy routers play nice with Fios TV? I've heard horror stories about losing channel guide functionality.

Good point! Most modern routers work fine with fios tv, but you might need to tweak some settings. The asus and netgear mentioned earlier both have good guides for fios tv setup.

Don't forget about VoIP if you're using Fios phone service! Both the ASUS and Netgear options mentioned earlier handle it well. Just make sure to configure QoS settings properly.

Steamboy, have you thought about future-proofing? Wi-Fi 7 is on the horizon. Might be worth considering if you want your router to stay cutting-edge for a few years.

If you've got a larger home, you might want to look into mesh systems. They play nice with Fios and can eliminate dead spots.

Am I the only one who thinks Wi-Fi 7 is overhyped? Unless you're running a data center in your living room, Wi-Fi 6 is plenty for most Fios setups. Save your money for faster internet tiers instead!

Just my two cents, but don't overlook the importance of a good mobile app for your router. Being able to manage your network from your phone is a game-changer, especially with all those smart home devices.
