Remakes everywhere… can we get something new for once?

Feels like we can't even enjoy a movie anymore before Hollywood announces they're already remaking it. Just last month finally watched that thriller from 2021 (the one with the cabin and the weird neighbors) and literally THE NEXT DAY saw announcement they're remaking it with a completely different cast and director. It's been only 4 years!!! Like what's the point??? The original is still on streaming platforms. Is everyone's memory so short now that we need the same stories retold every 5 years? Or are studios just completely out of ideas? Used to be remakes happened after decades so new generation could experience it, now it's just lazy cash grabs. Driving me insane

Worked as production assistant on a remake last year. Director literally had original playing on iPad during shoots for "reference" meaning copying entire scenes 💀

Gonna get downvoted to oblivion but... Sometimes remakes actually slap harder than originals. Especially if first version had good concept but terrible execution

They're literally remaking spiderverse already. THE ANIMATED MOVIE THAT WON AN OSCAR FOR INNOVATION 🤦‍♂️

Blame streaming services desperate for content. Cheaper to remake something with built-in audience than risk new idea

exactly. netflix execs told us "familiar titles get 38% more clicks" during pitch meeting. instant greenlight for our terrible remake

My theater professor calls this "cultural amnesia" - society forgetting its own stories faster than ever before. Symptom of digital age

tried explaining to my 9yo nephew that lion king was remake. He looked at me like i suggested the earth was flat

Corporations found formula: remake + nostalgia = guaranteed profit with minimal creative risk. Capitalism killing art in real time

anyone noticed how these quick remakes always gender swap or race swap main characters? not against diversity but feels like lazy shortcut instead of original diverse stories

counter theory - studios using diversity as shield against criticism of their remake cash grabs. "you hate our lazy remake? you must hate [minority group]!"

Petition to make studios wait minimum 25 years before remaking anything. Let memories fade first at least

I'm so over these endless remakes. Caught a video from the critical drinker recently where he ranted about Hollywood recycling movies for a quick buck, and it's spot on. Anyone else fed up?

watched original and remake of that horror movie back to back last weekend. Literally same script with different lighting. felt scammed twice

Peak absurdity was when that streaming service remade their OWN SHOW from just 7 years earlier. Same target audience still alive and watching!
