Looking for best 4k projector for gaming and need HONEST opinions

First time posting here so go easy on me! Moving into new place with a dedicated media room and ditching the TV for a projector setup. Main use will be gaming (Series X + PS5) with some streaming on the side. Really want true 4K since next-gen games deserve it, and need something with minimal lag since I play a lot of competitive FPS. Wall is already painted with screen paint, room can be completely dark, and throw distance is flexible since nothing's mounted yet. Anyone actually gaming on projectors long-term and loving it? What's your daily driver? Any major regrets or things you wish you knew before buying?

Console gaming on projector completely changed my life. Can't ever go back to tiny TV screens. One warning nobody mentions - once friends see your setup, your house becomes the permanent hangout spot

Measuring throw distance correctly = most important step almost everyone skips. Use an actual projectorcentral calculator before buying anything or you'll end up returning it

Keep expectations realistic. Even best gaming projectors have more input lag than premium TVs. Fine for 99% of games but if you're playing competitive esports where milliseconds matter, you might be disappointed

don't listen to the "you need perfect darkness" crowd. modern high-brightness projectors work fine with some ambient light. living room with blinds is totally workable

Depends entirely on screen material. My ambient light rejecting screen lets me play at noon with curtains open. Standard white screen? Forget about it

Most important factor nobody talks about: placement flexibility. Short throw models save marriages - my wife was ready to divorce me over ceiling mounting drama

lifetime of bulbs matters more than specs on paper. my $3000 projector needed $300 lamp replacement after 14 months and I'm still salty about it

Running BenQ TK700STi for about 9 months now. Input lag seriously impressive for a projector (16ms in game mode). Great for FPS games where every millisecond counts. Not the best blacks but in a gaming-first setup, the responsiveness makes up for it

projector + console gaming = fantastic

projector + pc gaming = prepare for resolution/scaling headaches that'll make you question your life choices

Consider acoustic transparency if you're mounting speakers behind the screen. The perforated material creates micro-diffraction patterns that can affect pixel clarity on detailed 4K content

Cooling fans are the detail reviews never mention. Some models sound like jet engines when running in high brightness mode. Demo before buying if possible

Don't sleep on proper screen dimensions. 16:9 ratio essential for gaming - wider cinema ratios will give you black bars in most games which defeats purpose of giant screen

Switched from regular long throw to epson ultra ls500 last year. Never looking back - place it right against the wall, no ceiling mount, no shadows when walking around. Laser means no bulb replacement anxiety either

calibration process took entire weekend and still doesn't look right. Hired professional who said my wall paint causing issues despite being "projector specific"

All these folks recommending $2k+ projectors when plug-and-play portable options exist. Bedroom wall gaming with portable projector got me through semester finals week

Careful with "fake 4K" marketing. Many projectors advertised as 4K actually use pixel shifting from lower resolution chips. Research native resolution before purchasing

everyone gangsta with giant screen until dialogue scenes too quiet but explosions wake the neighbors. projector audio ecosystem is pure pain
