Frustrated: Streaming issues in Europe - need best vpn for roku to bypass region blocks 😫

Just relocated to Germany and my Roku is basically useless now. All my US streaming apps showing that annoying "not available in your region" message even though I'm still paying for everything! Googled around and seems like I need best vpn for roku to fix this mess but I'm completely lost. Never done anything like this before. Router configs? DNS settings? No clue where to even start. Anyone else fixed this problem without being a tech genius? Just wanna chill and watch my shows after work without all this hassle!

Roku devices don't support VPN apps directly - gotta set it up on your router instead. Pain in the butt but only real solution

Just went through this nightmare when I moved to Asia. Ended up getting a travel router that supports VPN configs. Way easier than messing with your main router trust me

this is exactly why i switched to fire stick. roku great for basics but garbage for international use

They don't want you to know this but you can also set up a vpn on your laptop and create a virtual router to share with roku. saved me $150 on a fancy router

Lived in 4 countries over past 6 years... Ditch the roku dude. Not worth the headache. Shield tv or apple tv will save ur sanity. More expensive? Yes. Actually works? Also yes

Youtube has tutorials for setting up smartdns instead of full vpn. Works better with streaming devices and doesn't tank your speed

tried this method last month and it stopped working after 2 weeks. These streaming services getting real aggressive with blocks lately

Been overseas for work past 8 months and surfshark with a flashed router keeping me sane. Not perfect but keeps my us netflix running when homesickness hits hard

masters2122 thinking they found a workaround while streaming services hiring entire security teams specifically to block what you're trying to do lmao

Biggest issue isn't even the geo-blocking technology itself, it's the DMCA compliance requirements forcing platforms into aggressive content filtering. No easy solution unfortunately

grab a raspberry pi (~$35), slap openvpn on it, configure as network gateway. boom, whole home solution that isn't sketchy chinese router firmware. afternoon project even for noobs

$300 for new streaming box... $150 for hacked router... $100/yr for vpn subscription... or just 🏴‍☠️? streaming industry literally creating their own competition lol

Wasted 3 months with expressvpn and still getting blocks half the time. Their customer service just kept telling me to clear cache and restart. Like yeah thanks genius never thought of that

Pro tip: check which country actually has the content you want before choosing vpn. Not all providers have servers in all countries and content libraries differ wildly

yall overthinking this. Just use smart dns proxy services instead of full vpn. Works better with streaming devices anyway

THIS. vpns constantly getting blocked but dns methods flying under radar still

Moved back to states after 3yrs abroad and still have nightmares about trying to watch playoff games. Technology simultaneously amazing and terrible

hamleon April 21, 2025, 4:04 p.m.

the irony of paying for both streaming services AND vpn just to access content you're already paying for... peak capitalism moment

W0_oDy April 28, 2025, 8:07 p.m.

Been using same setup for 2yrs without issues: asus router with merlin firmware + vpn config. Initial setup took entire weekend but zero maintenance since

Honestly OP just find a tech-savvy friend and bribe them with pizza to set this up for you. Cheaper than therapy after trying to figure it out yourself
