Need advice on best vpn for Canada after recent online privacy changes

Just found out my company's transferring me to our Montreal office for at least a year starting next month. Excited but also kinda freaking out about all the digital adjustments.

Been reading horror stories about Bill C-11 and how it's changing content access up north. Plus I've got subscriptions to like five different US streaming platforms I can't bear to lose (yes I have a problem).

Starting to research privacy options and getting overwhelmed with conflicting info. Some threads say Canadian ISPs are chill, others claim they're worse than US providers for monitoring.

Not looking to do anything sketchy, just want to keep my normal digital life intact and maintain some basic privacy. Any current residents have suggestions?

those "horror stories" about c-11 massively overblown lmao. been here entire life, nothing changed except youtube occasionally forcing some canadian music in my feed. vpn unnecessary unless u absolutely need us-only content

Montreal ISPs notorious for injecting tracking headers into web traffic. First week here my ad profile completely transformed despite using same accounts. Privacy erosion happens subtly but rapidly

Dude just enjoy montreal's incredible food scene instead of worrying about streaming services!! Legit best poutine spots don't even have wifi, take it as sign to unplug while here lol

Literally any vpn will work for basic streaming… The real issue nobody mentions is BANKING. Tried logging into chase once from canadian ip and boom-instant fraud lock. No override possible. Became 2hr customer service nightmare

yo whatever u decide skip the airport/tourist trap vpn kiosks when u land. absolute scam charging 2-3x normal rates preying on new arrivals. sign up online before leaving using home address

Changed jobs last year requiring relocation from NYC to Toronto. Tried 4 different services before nordvpn finally solved hulu/hbo issues. Their obfuscated servers somehow avoid detection even with canadian payment method

Check if ur building includes internet first!!! Many montreal apartments bundle rogers/bell service in rent. They specifically throttle vpn protocols on these packages to "maintain network integrity"

Confirm this! Landlord failed to mention included internet had port blocking for EVERYTHING useful. Spent first month tethering to phone until contract allowed upgrade

Crucial to understand how deep packet inspection works before choosing provider. Canadian telecoms employ much more sophisticated traffic analysis than us counterparts, easily identifying and throttling encrypted tunnels that lack proper obfuscation

Montreal tech worker perspective: rogers business line + custom openvpn setup = zero issues two years running. Consumer lines different story entirely. Check if employer will subsidize business class connection before wasting $ on vpn subscriptions

got family in calgary i visit yearly. Discovered hilariously easier solution than vpn drama: $15 prepaid us sim card kept active for streaming device. Technically against tos but works flawlessly

forget streaming - adjust ur expectations immediately re: canadian internet PRICES. prepare for serious sticker shock coming from states. paying $95/month for what used to cost me $45 in chicago

Plus "unlimited" plans still have soft caps they don't advertise. Hit 950gb last month and suddenly my "gigabit" connection mysteriously slowed to 1990s dialup speeds until billing cycle reset

Montreal specifically blocks major vpn provider IP ranges at random intervals during high traffic periods. Documented this happening 7 times last quarter alone. Unreliability makes annual subscriptions questionable value proposition
