Password managers, 2FA, security keys - what's actually worth the hassle for normal people?

My email got hacked yesterday and now all my accounts are screwed. Someone changed my spotify password??? Like why even bother stealing my terrible playlists lol.

I know absolutely nothing about security stuff. My passwords are basically:

  • Facebook: facebook123
  • Amazon: amazon123
  • Bank: facebook123! (extra secure with the !)

My friend is now lecturing me about password managers and authentication apps and some dongle thing I'm supposed to carry around?? My brother says just use the same password but add the website name. My mom says write them in a notebook.

Seriously what do normal people actually do? Not looking for the perfect system, just what actually works in real life without making me want to throw my phone at a wall.

lastpass was a nightmare for me honestly. downloaded after my sister kept nagging me about security. crashed literally 5 times first day trying to save passwords. then kept signing me out randomly?? then the final straw was when I was checking out online and it just spun forever trying to autofill. deleted immediately. passwords back in notes app with slightly diff versions. good enough lol

LOL at ppl making this complicated. Chrome saves everything. Gmail needs good password + phone verification. Everything else who cares. Got "hacked" once, they changed my hulu password. Reset it in 2 min. Life moves on

ppl here acting like theyre holding nuclear codes lmaoooo. My banking app already forces me to use fingerprint + code. What else needs that level of security?? My doordash account??

Tell that to my cousin who had to spend 40+ hrs dealing with identity theft after his "who cares" email account got hacked. They used it to reset ALL his other passwords

I wrote down all my passwords in a little black book i keep in my desk drawer. When it gets too messy i start a new page. Been doing this 15 yrs and never been hacked. Sometimes old school just works

Fun fact: got rejected for apartment application bc background check showed "suspicious activity" from when target got hacked in 2013 and i used same password everywhere. This stuff has real consequences yall

husband set up 1password for our family bc "security" and now he bugs me every time i use our anniversary as password for new accounts. whatever. at least it autofills everything so i dont care anymore

Writing down passwords isn't even bad?? My IT guy friend says most hacks happen ONLINE not from someone physically stealing ur stuff. I have a small notebook with all my important ones that stays in my desk drawer. Way better than reusing same password on 20 sites. Burglars want your tv not your password to freaking pinterest. Common sense people

I used to think this was all paranoid bs till someone got into my gmail, then used password recovery to access my amazon, then ordered 3k worth of stuff to a diff address. Changed shipping address on my account too so i never got notification. Nightmare to fix!!!

Switch to authy!!! Lets you backup codes and sync between devices. Google one is trash design

Honestly the fingerprint reader on my phone feels like perfect balance. Secure enough but super easy. wish everything just used that instead of passwords completely
