Genetic privacy in dating apps - would you share your DNA profile to find a 'compatible' match?

Just found promo for new dating app "GenMatch" launching next month that requires DNA sample (saliva) to join. Claims their algorithm identifies genetic compatibility for healthier relationships and "optimized offspring" (their creepy wording, not mine). Supposedly identifies incompatible genetic markers + matches based on complementary genetic traits. My friends split between "horrifying dystopian nightmare" and "revolutionary relationship science." Curious if anyone would actually give DNA to a dating app? Some points they make about benefits: longer lasting relationships due to "biological compatibility," reduced risk of genetic disorders in potential children, personality matching based on genetic predispositions. Whole thing feels wildly invasive but also weirdly intriguing?

Absolutely not no never nope. Dating apps ALREADY harvest+sell our data without consent. Imagine what they'd do with literal genetic blueprint of your existence. Might as well hand over your medical records and house keys while you're at it

Genetic compatibility myth rooted in outdated pseudo-science. Countless happy couples with "incompatible" genetics exist everywhere. Relationships succeed through communication/values/effort not biological determinism. Sounds like eugenics with modern branding tbh

Concerning trends in privatized genetic testing marketed as "lifestyle services." No regulatory framework exists specifically for dating-based DNA collection. Companies operate in legal grey area with ownership of extremely sensitive data

y'all ever consider maybe relationship problems aren't because of "genetic incompatibility" but because you're insufferable? no dna test fixing that sorry not sorry

We already swipe based on height/looks/job (all partially genetic). How's this fundamentally different? Just more precise. Might eliminate some bad first dates. Willing to try if privacy policy solid. Not sharing genetic profile publicly, just matching algorithm right?

Real question: do we trust dating company with ethical implementation?

lmao remember when OkCupid used personality questions claiming "scientific matching" and relationships still failed spectacularly? This just expensive science-flavored snake oil for desperate singles

Dropped $120 on "scientifically validated personality matching" last year. Matched with legitimate psychopath. Company then sold my data to marketers. Fool me once...

Insurance companies SALIVATING at potential data goldmine. Nothing preventing GenMatch from selling anonymized genetic profiles to third parties. Current health privacy laws don't adequately cover dating apps collecting medical-adjacent information

Question nobody asking: WHO OWNS YOUR DNA DATA after submitting? Terms of service likely claim perpetual license to genetic information. Imagine your grandson getting rejected from job because your DNA profile showed "undesirable traits" in family line
