Whats the best wall mounted soundbar that wont destroy my wall??

So I finally convinced my wife to let me wall mount our TV (took like 6 months of negotiating lol) and now I realize the sound is complete trash without anything underneath it. The TV is mounted pretty high because our living room has this stupid chair rail that forced us to go higher than normal.

Current situation is driving me nuts:

  • TV is floating on the wall looking clean but sounds like garbage
  • Height is probably around 5.5-6 feet from floor because of the chair rail placement
  • Room size is decent, maybe 14x18 with regular carpet and popcorn ceiling (yeah I know, previous owner)
  • Couch sits about 10 feet back

Really need advice on mounting a soundbar without it falling down and putting a hole in my drywall. I'm decent with basic tools but not trying to become a contractor over this project.

Also worried about:

  • Weight limits and whether my wall can handle it
  • Making sure it looks proportional (65" TV for reference)
  • Cable situation since everything will be visible
  • Wife approval factor (she already thinks the TV looks "too high")

Anyone done this successfully without major disasters?

Dude mounting height matters way more than most people think. If your soundbar is shooting sound over your head because its mounted too high you basically wasted your money. Learned this the hard way

lol "wife approval factor" - we've all been there brother. whatever you get make sure it doesn't stick out from wall too much or she'll complain it looks bulky. speaking from experience here ๐Ÿ˜…

Popcorn ceiling tells me your house is probably older which might mean different wall construction. Definitely locate studs properly or you're gonna have a bad time when bass hits during movies

Chair rail actually gives you reference point for mounting which is nice. Most people just guess at height and end up with crooked installations that bug them forever

Exactly! Use that chair rail as your level reference. Way easier than trying to measure and mark everything freehand. Also means your mounting will look intentional instead of random

Went through tons of research before landing on JBL Bar 9.1 for my wall mount setup. The bracket system they include is actually solid and the wireless surrounds meant I didn't have to run speaker wire all over my living room walls

Check what kind of studs you have first! My house has metal studs and regular wood screws just stripped right out. Had to buy special fasteners from home depot and start over

65" TV probably needs at least 43" soundbar or it'll look tiny and weird. proportion is everything when stuff is mounted on wall where everyone can see it clearly

Biggest mistake people make is not considering mechanical resonance between the soundbar and wall structure. If you mount it rigid against drywall every bass note turns into wall vibration and sounds terrible

5.5-6 feet mounting height is pretty ideal for soundbars. Puts tweeters closer to ear level when you're sitting which helps dialogue clarity compared to having it down low

Whatever mounting hardware comes with your soundbar, double it. Use extra screws, extra anchors, whatever. Better safe than sorry when you're hanging expensive electronics on your wall

ended up with lg sn6y after trying a couple different options. their mounting system spreads the load across multiple attachment points instead of hanging everything from one central bracket which made me feel way more confident about long term stability

Pro tip for cables - get some paintable cable raceways from amazon. Run power and audio through them and paint to match your wall. Looks way cleaner than loose cables hanging down

This is clutch advice. Spent extra on in-wall cable management and wife actually complimented how clean it looks. Happy wife happy life and all that

If you're not super confident with power tools maybe hire someone? Mounting mistakes are expensive to fix and drywall repair is a pain. Sometimes worth paying professional to do it right first time

Been running wall mounted setup for couple years now with zero issues. Key thing is don't cheap out on the mounting hardware and actually follow weight limits. Physics doesn't care about your budget
