Patriot PAC-3 missile interceptor exploded prematurely before reaching its target during an exercise in Taiwan

The abnormal situation was confirmed by Taiwan Air Force General Tsao Chin-ping. The cause of the explosion is not yet specified. Military experts will be able to determine it after further investigation.

The island nation's defence ministry has accelerated its assessment of the missile systems amid provocations and intimidation by China. It was the first time a PAC-3 interceptor bought from the USA exploded before hitting a target in the air.

Many videos have surfaced on social media showing the PAC-3 exploding prematurely in the sky. The second missile made no mistake and successfully hit the intended target.
