Russia has officially confirmed the completion of the $5.43 billion S-400 Triumf air defence system deliveries to India by the end of 2024
Deliveries of Russian S-400 Triumf (SA-21 Growler by NATO codification) air defence systems to India will be completed by the end of next year. Earlier, exports slowed down due to sanctions that were imposed on Russia after the large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
This was announced by the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation Dmitry Shugaev at the Army-2023 forum. According to him, the completion of the anti-aircraft missile systems is expected on time.
India decided to buy Russian air defence systems in 2015. Three years later, a contract was signed for the delivery of five regimental sets of S-400 Triumf systems. The amount of the agreement was $5.43bn.
Note that the Russian federation initially planned to hand over all air defence systems to India by the end of 2023. However, sanctions made adjustments to the delivery schedule. In January 2023, India started receiving the third batch of S-400 Triumf systems.
The surface-to-air missile system includes a 91N6E radar with an instrumented range of 600 kilometres. The self-propelled launchers are capable of shooting down aerial threats at an altitude of up to 35 kilometres and a range of up to 400 kilometres. Apart from India, Russia and Turkey, China is the operator of the S-400 Triumf.
