Belgium has bought Sea Sparrow missiles from Germany, which could soon be armed with Buk surface-to-air missile systems

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will soon receive a batch of Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missiles. Belgium bought them from Germany for transfer to Ukraine.

Unfortunately, we are talking about a small batch of Sea Sparrow. To be more precise, it is about eight missiles. At the same time, the Belgian government is preparing a new military aid package worth more than $160 million, which, in particular, will include hundreds of army trucks Volvo and armoured vehicles IVECO Lynx.

As for Sea Sparrow missiles, there is no official word yet on which platforms the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using for launches. Earlier there was talk of integrating Sea Sparrow on Buk surface-to-air missile systems, but it is unclear whether the work has already been completed.

Sea Sparrow is primarily a medium-range maritime surface-to-air missile system focused on defence against a wide range of air threats. The missile can reach speeds of up to Mach 2.5 (857.5 m/s), depending on the version.

AIM-7 missiles are capable of destroying air threats that fly at Mach 2-3 (686-1029 m/s). The maximum intercept altitude ranges from 18.2 kilometres to 27.5 kilometres, depending on the munition version.
