Latvia plans to receive US HIMARS missile systems in 2026-2027, along with Naval Strike Missile anti-ship missile systems
Latvia wants to receive US HIMARS systems and Naval Strike Missile anti-ship systems in 3-4 years. But the timing of deliveries depends on the US.
Here's What We Know
Defence Minister Artis Pabriks said late last year that Latvia intends to buy six M142 HIMARS high-mobility missile systems. A few months later, it became known that the Baltic country wanted to buy Naval Strike Missile systems (pictured below). The anti-ship missile can engage targets within a radius of approximately 185 kilometres.
HIMARS and Naval Strike Missile may be delivered to Latvia in 2026-2027. This was announced by Jānis Garisons, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, when speaking to journalists this week. At the same time, Defence Minister Ināra Mūrniece added that the timeline depends not only on Latvia, but also on the United States.
Latvia also has a third missile system project. In addition to HIMARS and Naval Strike Missile, the country wants to buy IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defence systems (pictured below). The purchase of German air defence systems will be carried out jointly with Estonia.
There is no information about the contract amounts yet. Earlier it was reported that Latvia is ready to allocate at least €600 million ($642 million) and €300 million ($321 million) for the purchase of IRIS-T and HIMARS respectively.
