The U.S. has scheduled an additional test of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile to demonstrate the readiness of America's nuclear deterrent forces

On September 6, 2023, the United States conducted a test launch of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile. America has another test scheduled for late autumn.

Here's What We Know

The day before, a silo-based intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the US Space Force base Vandeberg. As it became known, the combat module travelled almost 6800 km and reached Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands in the central Pacific Ocean.

The Minuteman III has a maximum launch range of over 13,000 kilometres. The intercontinental ballistic missile serves as one of the components of the nuclear deterrent force, making it possible to strike anywhere in the world.

This was the third test of the Minuteman III since the beginning of 2023. The fourth launch of the intercontinental ballistic missile is scheduled for November. This means the U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command will conduct twice as many Minuteman III test launches in 2023 as it did in 2022.
