Germany does not guarantee to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles with a range of more than 500 kilometres even if the US transfers ATACMS ballistic missiles to Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said several times that his country will follow the US example when it comes to arms supplies to Ukraine. However, it seems that this approach will not work in the case of long-range weapons.
Here's What We Know
In recent days, information has emerged that the US is moving closer to approving the supply of ATACMS ballistic missiles to Ukraine. Moreover, the Reuters news agency wrote that Ukraine may receive ATACMS and GMLRS with cluster warheads.
However, even if the USA approves the delivery of ATACMS, it will not mean that Germany will immediately agree to transfer Taurus cruise missiles with a launch range of over 500 kilometres to Ukraine. This was stated by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.
The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Germany met in Kyiv the previous day. The official website of the Ukrainian ministry said that the issue of Taurus deliveries was discussed. At the same time, Boris Pistorius said on Monday that Germany had not yet made a decision.
