The Canadian government wants to arm the MQ-9B with AGM-114R2 Hellfire II air-to-ground missiles. The US State Department has approved the potential sale of 219 missiles. The deal also includes Mk 82 bombs, JDAM kits, AN/APY-8 Lynx radars and additional equipment.

A few words should be said about the Hellfire II. AGM-114R2 is one of the latest modifications of the missile. It is equipped with a laser guidance system, multi-purpose warhead and has a launch range of up to 11 kilometres.

The amount of the potential deal was $313.4 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified the US Congress that the possible sale has been approved by the State Department. Congressmen are expected to review the deal within 30 days.
