The U.S. and Denmark conducted an exercise using the launcher for SM-6 interceptors, which can shoot down ballistic missiles and strike land and sea targets
This week, the U.S. Navy conducted a joint exercise with the Danish Armed Forces. The purpose of the exercise was to provide convoy protection to enhance defence capabilities in the region.
Here's What We Know
The exercise used a containerised Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) interceptor launcher. It was delivered to the island of Bornholm in the south-western Baltic Sea by a C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft.

The SM-6 is capable of intercepting enemy ballistic missiles in the terminal phase of flight. At the same time, the SM-6 is a dual-purpose missile. In addition to surface-to-air operations, it can strike stationary targets on land and mobile targets at sea.
The containerised launcher option for the SM-6 increases the flexibility of the US Navy and allows for rapid deployment of the system. The exercise was a reaffirmation of Denmark's strategically important role in maintaining regional security.
