Germany could not decide to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles with a range of more than 500 kilometres for fear of direct confrontation with Russia

A few days ago, it became known that Germany would make a decision on the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine by the end of the month. September is coming to an end, but the transfer of missiles has not been approved.

Germany postponed the decision until better times. German authorities believe that the approval of Taurus deliveries will bring closer to a direct confrontation between Germany and the Russian Federation. This is stated by The Wall Street Journal with reference to senior officials from Germany.

At the same time, the publication specifies that the government has already approved the transfer of cruise missiles to Ukraine. Deliveries are blocked by Olaf Scholz. The chancellor fears that Germany will have to send military personnel to Ukraine to maintain the Taurus, which will drag the country into war.

Last week, we wrote that approval of ATACMS tactical ballistic missile deliveries could push Germany to hand over the Taurus. However, the chancellor's spokesman says the FRG has not yet developed a plan for the deliveries.

Taurus is a German air-launched cruise missile that has a launch range of over 500 kilometres. If received, the Ukrainian Air Force will use Su-24 aircraft for launches, similar to the Storm Shadow and SCALP EG.
