The M142 HIMARS will be able to destroy moving targets with GMLRS guided missiles thanks to the RIG-360 communication module
The US M142 HIMARS missile system will be able to destroy targets on the move. The system will acquire this capability thanks to the Remote Interceptor Guidance-360 (RIG-360) communication module.
Here's What We Know
Lockheed Martin announced that the missile communications prototype was able to successfully demonstrate the in-flight target update concept for the GMLRS precision guided missile for the first time. The company said that the successful integration of the RIG-360 on a family of multiple rocket launcher projectiles provides in-flight target update information as well as the ability to destroy mobile targets.
Lockheed Martin intends to fire test the GMLRS with the communications module next year. This is stated in a press release, which was published on the official website of the company.
Earlier, Lockheed Martin was able to establish communication between the RIG-360 and the PAC-3 MSE missile interceptor. During the test, the Patriot system successfully hit a cruise missile. The communication module receives target information from multiple sources and allows the PAC-3 MSE to be used without being tied to a radar station.
