Ukraine and the US have created the FrankenSAM air defence system based on the Buk SAM system, which can launch RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missiles

The USA has helped Ukraine build two new air defence systems. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing a Pentagon official.

The new systems have been named FrankenSAM. One of them is based on the anti-aircraft missile system "Buk". Specialists modified the launcher. Now it can launch American missiles RIM-7 Sea Sparrow.

The second variant of FrankenSAM uses AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles, the delivery of which was officially announced earlier. Specialists created a new launcher, supplementing it with Western radars and other components that Ukraine received from allies. According to the source, the new air defence systems will start working by the end of autumn.
