Indian destroyer Rajput has successfully launched the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos
India held a naval exercise in which the destroyer Rajput test-fired a BrahMos cruise missile. This is the third such exercise in a matter of weeks.
Here's What We Know
The test took place in the Bay of Bengal. The Rajput destroyer, which is part of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet, successfully launched the supersonic cruise missile. During the flight, BrahMos achieved all its intended targets.
This was the third exercise involving the supersonic missile. On 18 October 2023, a Su-30MKI fighter jet launched an air-launched configuration. This came a week after the Indian Air Force, along with the Army, tested four extended-range BrahMos missiles.
BrahMos Aerospace is the company that manufactures the projectiles. It was established in 1998. BrahMos is an Indian anti-ship missile capable of supersonic speed. It is based on the Russian Onyx anti-ship missile, the export version of which is called Yakhont.
