Slovakia's new government has refused to hand over 140 anti-aircraft missiles for the Kub missile-defence system to Ukraine
Ukraine will not receive more than 100 anti-aircraft missiles for the Kub air defence systems. The new Slovak government has refused to fulfil the offer of the previous government.
Here's What We Know
The 14th military aid package included 140 anti-aircraft missiles for the Kub system, 4 million rounds of ammunition, 5172 shells of 125 mm calibre, as well as mines and mortars. The value was estimated at more than $40 million. The arms transfer was rejected at a meeting of the Slovak government on Wednesday.
Since February 2022, Slovakia has transferred 13 military aid packages to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including S-300 surface-to-air missile systems and MiG-29 fighter jets. Their total value is estimated at over $700m.
Slovakia changed its position after the election, which was won by Robert Fico. The new prime minister said that his country would not help Ukraine with weapons from its stockpiles. At the same time, Slovakia will not block private arms exports.
