During the first MIM-104 Patriot test in Romania, a technical error occurred - the PAC-2 interceptor could be launched only on the second attempt
Romania conducted the first tests of the MIM-104 Patriot missile defence system. The tests were not without problems.
Here's What We Know
During the tests, the Romanian Armed Forces used the Patriot Advanced Capability 2 (PAC-2) missile interceptor. The tests assessed the system's ability to counter a number of targets, which were drones.
The MIM-104 Patriot successfully destroyed two aerial threats with two PAC-2 interceptors. When attempting to launch the second anti-missile, a technical error occurred. It later transpired that the problem was due to a communication breakdown between the control centre and the launcher.
The Romanian military is not too worried about the failure during the test. They believe that in real combat operations, such an error will not affect the MIM-104 Patriot's ability to provide air defence. By the way, the problem was fixed and the PAC-2 successfully hit its target on the second attempt.
