The US has postponed to 2024 the transfer to Ukraine of GLSDB rocket bombs with a range of 150 km for HIMARS
Boeing will deliver the first GLSDB (Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb) jets to the Pentagon by the end of the year. But the new weapon will be sent to Ukraine only next year.
Here's What We Know
GLSDB is an experimental weapon, which is a hybrid of small diameter bomb GBU-39 and rocket engine from the M26 rocket projectile. The maximum launch range is 150 kilometres. Ukraine has highly mobile M142 HIMARS artillery rocket systems to use the GLSDB.
According to the Reuters news agency, Boeing will hand over the first batch of rocket-propelled bombs to the US Department of Defence by the end of December. After that, the weapons will undergo a series of tests lasting several months.
Boeing made a request to the US government to transfer the GLSDB to Ukraine as early as last year. Since then, different dates for the start of deliveries have been announced. Now it is reported that the long-range jet bombs could arrive to the Ukrainian Defence Forces in the first half of 2024.
