NASA has allocated more than $97 million for the development of a next-generation space suit

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has contracted with Collins Aerospace to develop a next-generation space suit.

Here's What We Know

In early 2022, an elevated water level was detected in one of the spacesuits upon returning from outer space. Because of this, NASA decided to suspend work aboard the International Space Station for six months. After checking it became known that the moisture level has increased because of the settings, so about two months ago, the space agency allowed to continue operations aboard the ISS.

Nevertheless, NASA in a few years wants to get a new generation of spacesuits. To do this, the federal agency has entered into an agreement with Collins Aerospace. The cost of the contract is $9702 million.

The current spacesuits appeared about 50 years ago and weigh more than 30 kg. The key requirements for next-generation spacesuits are lower mass and improved mobility. The test version will be ready in early 2024.
