Hungary has received the first of 44 German Leopard 2A7HU tanks under a contract worth $565 million

Rheinmetall has started deliveries of Leopard 2 tanks to Hungary. The first German main battle tank recently arrived in the country.

Here's What We Know

Hungary ordered 44 Leopard 2A7+ tanks in the special modification 2A7HU in December 2018. Budapest also purchased 24 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery systems and 12 refurbished Leopard 2A7HU tanks. The total value of the contract was $565 million.

The Hungarian version of the main battle tank features improved protection of the upper turret projection and a new fire control system. The Leopard 2A7HU is also equipped with a PERI RTWL sight and a platform for the FN Herstal RWS combat module.
