Nigeria wants to buy Russian modernised T-90S tanks worth $2.5m
Nigeria intends to acquire Russian T-90S main battle tanks. This is reported by Military Africa, citing a Nigerian high-ranking official who attended the Army-2023 forum in Russia.
Here's What We Know
Nigeria has quite a few Russian weapons in service. In particular, in 2017, the African country received Mi-35M helicopters. If we talk about tanks, Nigeria uses the T-55 and several modifications of the T-72.
The T-90S is an export version of the T-90 tank. The modernisation includes a new turret with an improved fire control system and a 2A46M gun of 125mm calibre. The tank also received a new automatic loader and an additional remote-controlled machine gun.
The T-90S is equipped with a larger main engine. It is accompanied by an additional power plant. It is designed to provide power supply when the main engine is switched off.
It is not yet known how many Russian tanks Nigeria intends to buy. The export value of one T-90S is approximately $2.5 million.
