The KRAKEN special unit has armed itself with a trophy Russian Tornado-U armoured vehicle that was captured in 2022

In autumn 2022, during an offensive in the Kharkiv region, the Ukrainian special unit KRAKEN captured a Tornado U armoured vehicle. It was restored and taken into service.

Here's What We Know

The Tornado-U armoured vehicle URAL-63706-0010 was introduced in 2015. It is based on a civilian URAL-6370 truck with 6x6 wheel arrangement and is designed to transport cargo, weapons, military and special equipment.

"Tornado-U" received armour of the fifth class to provide protection against armour-piercing bullets of 7.62 mm calibre fired from a distance of up to 10 metres. The armoured vehicle is capable of transporting up to 16 tonnes of cargo, with a gross weight of 30 tonnes.

The power plant is represented by a six-cylinder diesel engine with 440 horsepower. It allows the Tornado-U to reach a speed of up to 100 kilometres on the highway.
