US Army uses mock-ups of Russian T-72 tanks based on American Humvee armoured vehicles
Russian tanks have appeared in Hawaii. To be more precise, these are their mock-ups, which are used for training American soldiers.
Here's What We Know
The US Army decided to use mock-ups of Russian T-72 tanks. For their creation, American armoured vehicles HMMWV, also known as Humvee, were used. The armoured vehicles had to be equipped with lightweight frames and inflatable components to make them look more like tanks. The mock-ups have a swivelling turret for greater realism.
The unconventional training method was recently demonstrated by members of the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. The training took place earlier this week at the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Centre in Hawaii.
The T-72 mock-up is augmented with a U.S. Army system called MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System). It allows to register hits and destruction of equipment during exercises.
