Not a single monkey died - Musk claims safety of Neuralink brain implants

American billionaire Elon Musk again raised the topic of Neuralink safety. According to him, the brain implants did not kill any monkeys on which experiments were conducted.

Here's What We Know

The New York Times Dealbook conference took place this week, where Ilon Musk revealed that early-stage testing of Neuralink involved monkeys that were close to death. In fact, the billionaire said nothing new, but merely repeated his own statements made this year and last year.

Musk claims that no monkey deaths have been recorded during the use of Neuralink brain implants. Last year, Neuralink's official website released a statement saying that eight monkeys had been euthanised. For two of them, the procedure was planned. Another six animals were euthanised on the recommendation of veterinarians at the University of California, Davis.

On the other hand, Bloomberg writes about the death of at least 12 monkeys after the implantation of Neuralink chips. Last year, Reuters news agency wrote that about 1,500 animals have died as a result of the experiments since 2018.
