Musk unblocked Donald Trump's Twitter account after all
Elon Musk continues to make changes to the social network Twitter after its purchase. Another of his decisions was to unblock the account of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Here's What We Know
Musk argued this decision with the results of a Twitter poll: the "yes" option won with a narrow margin of 52% to 48%. More than 15 million people took part in the vote, although 134 million users viewed the post.
Twitter's new owner had previously stated that he would not unblock any accounts until he assembled a content moderation board. However, he has unblocked not only Trump, but some other users on his own - such as satirical site Babylon Bee and blogger Jordan Peterson, who were banned for insulting transgender people.
Former President Trump was banned from using Twitter on Jan. 8, 2021 "due to the risk of further incitement to violence" after his role in calling for the Jan. 6 Capitol attacks.
The @realDonaldTrump account has now been reinstated along with all of his published tweets. Donald Trump has not yet left new messages, and it is unclear whether he will at all: He has previously stated that he does not want to return to Twitter and will remain on his Truth Social network. Although he recently announced that he will run for president of the United States in 2024, so anything is possible...
