The introduction of paid verification on Twitter does not appear to have gone exactly according to plan. Many stars have refused to pay Blue's $8-a-month subscription, but Elon Musk has done so for some of them as a goodwill gesture.

Here's What We Know

The other day, users who verified their Twitter accounts under the old rules began to lose the Blue mark. Basketball player LeBron James, however, has kept the blue tick despite refusing to pay for Twitter Blue. Although he is one of the main opponents of paid verification.

The Los Angeles Lakers forward's entourage have confirmed that James has not paid for Blue. It is learnt that the subscription for him was paid for by Elon Musk.

The Twitter CEO has confirmed that he's paying for Twitter Blue for "a few" people. It's not yet known how many users we're talking about but in addition to LeBron James they include American writer Stephen King and Canadian actor William Shatner.
