Walmart has stopped advertising on social network X (Twitter) because of offensive remarks made by Elon Musk
Social network X (formerly Twitter) continues to lose its advertisers after the recent scandal. It has become known that Walmart Corporation, one of the largest employers in the US, no longer advertises on the platform.
Here's What We Know
Walmart representatives said that the company has stopped placing advertising on the social network X: "We aren’t advertising on X as we’ve found other platforms to better reach our customers".
For those not in the know, we tell you where it all started. Media Matters for America said in a report published a few weeks ago that the platform was placing ads for big brands like Apple next to anti-Semitic content. And afterwards, Elon Musk supported a post by a user who referred to the "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory. It claims that Jews and leftists are planning an ethnic and cultural replacement of the white population with non-white immigrants, leading to a "white genocide".
As a result, Company X lost dozens of advertisers such as Apple, Walt Disney and Warner Bros Discovery. According to media reports, the social network could lose up to $75 million in revenue by the end of the year because of the scandal.
But Ilon Musk has not been appeased and during a recent interview he lashed out with invective at advertisers who have suspended their ads, accusing them of "blackmail".
