Musk will be held accountable in court for his remarks made before buying Twitter
American billionaire Elon Musk will be brought to court. The reason is his statements made between the announcement of his desire to buy the company Twitter and the conclusion of the deal.
Here's What We Know
Musk announced plans in the spring of 2022 to acquire Twitter, which owned the social network of the same name. The deal was concluded in the autumn of the same year, but in a few months the American billionaire made a number of statements for which he will now have to answer.
The businessman tried to refuse to buy Twitter and accused the company's management of purposefully distorting statistics about the number of bots and fake accounts. Although the deal was eventually struck, Senior Judge Charles Breyer of the Federal District Court for the Northern District of California (Charles Breyer) deemed the claims made by the investors to be legitimate.
The court ultimately found that Musk's statements created a false perception of the state of affairs. The investors' claims were based on three statements by the American businessman about the cancellation of the deal and the share of fake accounts on Twitter.
At the same time, the court dismissed a number of claims based on other statements made by the billionaire. The reason was the plaintiffs' inability to prove that Musk's statements were misleading or false.
