The U.S. Army will receive Penguin drones with flight speeds of 120 km/h and more than 20 hours of battery life
The company Edge Autonomy will supply drones Penguin to the U.S. military.
What we know
The manufacturer has received a contract from the US Department of Defense to supply drones Penguin. Details of the deal have not yet been disclosed. The Edge Autonomy production range includes drones Penguin B and Penguin C.
The Penguin B was introduced in 2009. It is a high-performance fixed-wing drone that has been delivered to more than 40 countries around the world. The drone can collect reconnaissance data in real time and transmit it digitally to a portable ground control station.
The UAV has an electro-optical camera mounted under the center section of the fuselage. It is used to capture images of the area it is exploring. Also Penguin B is equipped with electro-optical and infrared sensors. It has a maximum flight speed of 129 km/h, a time of 20 hours, and an altitude of 5 km.
Penguin C introduced in 2012. The drone is based on Penguin B. The military can use the drone for surveillance, object tracking, detection of small moving targets and intelligence gathering.
