Kratos Defense & Security Solutions builds three top-secret drones that competitors know nothing about
Kratos Defense & Security Solutions is working on several drone projects at once. Some of them are top secret. Not only that, the manufacturer refuses to even mention the name of the drones.
Here's What We Know
Let's start with a few words about the programs that are being worked on relatively publicly. First, Kratos has begun production of the XQ-58A Valkyrie Block 2 drones. Secondly, the Air Wolf drone has gone into production.
We have a separate story about the Valkyrie. As for the Air Wolf (pictured below), it is a multi-purpose drone based on the MQM-178 Firejet air target. Development began several years ago.
Now on to secret projects. The head of Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Eric DeMarco, has said the company is developing a new secret system "that competitors know nothing about". The mysterious drone is being flight tested in Oklahoma. The company conducted "very successful" tests last week.
Also, Eric DeMarco mentioned another top secret program while talking to investors. However, the CEO can't say anything about it, apart from the fact that full-scale production has already started.
Not much is known about the third project either. It is called Dark Fury and is funded by Kratos Defense & Security Solutions. It will make its first test flight next year. We have no more information about the drone.
And to conclude with a few more words about the XQ-58A Valkyrie. DeMarco did not go into detail, but noted that the company has been able to secure a number of additional drone contracts and intends to sign more in the coming months.
