Here's What We Know
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified the US Congress of approval of the deal. The contract amount will be $611 million. Congress must approve the sale within 30 days.
The Netherlands is not only buying four MQ-9A Reaper Block 5 strike drones. The deal also includes three mobile ground control systems, on-board units with a spoofing module, up to eight AN/DAS-4 guidance systems, up to 20 Lynx AN/APY-8 radars and other equipment. The agreement also includes the sale of M299 Hellfire Longbow missile launchers.
The potential deal will support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of a NATO ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe. The MQ-9A Reaper will be used to conduct reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance missions as well as provide airborne fire support.
